Antigone By: Sophocles This play was tragic and interesting. An oracle tells the king that he will have a child named Oedipus that will kill him and marries his wife. The king does everything in his power to keep the Oedipus away but a shepherd find Oedipus and takes him in as his own. One day Oedipus went to the oracle to find out who his real parents are. Then Oedipus tries to run away but he ends up finding his real father and ends up killing him and then marries his mother once he found out that he did his destiny he gouged his eyeballs out and became blind. |
Touching Spirit Bear By: Ben Mikaelsen I had read the touching spirit bear. Cole has an anger management problem that led him to be banished to an island. The incident that led to this was when Cole severely beat up a kid at school and even going so far to “jump on him again and start smashing his head against the sidewalk” (Mikaelsen pg.7). This shows that Cole can get mad pretty easily and his anger can lead him into getting out of control. This also shows that Cole’s anger is uncontrollable and led him to putting a kid’s life in danger. In addition, once Cole is on the island he catches the spirit bear looking at him and shouts “keep staring at me, I’ll kill you” (Mikaelsen pg.44). This shows that Coles doesn’t care who or what you are his anger can be directed at anybody. This also shows the Cole has no care or respect for anyone else because he gets mad easily when the spirit bear stares at him. From these incidents it is clear that Cole has to get his anger under control so that he may be freed from his punishment of the island. I rate this 6/10 Chinese Cinderella By: Adeline Yeh Mah. I had also read the chinese cinderella. Its about a girl growing up in her time with her family. She was an unwanted daughter. Her family considers her bad luck after her mother dies giving birth to her. Life does not get any easier when her father remarries. She and her siblings are subjected to the disdain of her stepmother, while her stepbrother and stepsister are spoiled. Although Adeline wins prizes at school, they are not enough to compensate for what she really yearns for -- the love and understanding of her family. She tries so hard to fit in with her family but her stepmother is really just a pain in the but and she really wants her gone. I rate this 7.3/10 Sold By: Patricia McCormick I want to read sold.
