All throughout the book we see young Cora rise from the struggles that she was born into, while making friends along the way it's still a long way to go. This book has open somewhat of a new lining into slavery for me. Well through a queer theory lens this book doesn't stand out that much. I chose this lens because I want people to see Cora as more of a independent woman, even though she was a slave and a woman she still stuck up for her self and her friends (somewhat) but still had the guts to do so compared to the woman these days or the woman farther back than her. Cora being a woman, is able to take on roles that men won't do. Colson Whitehead did a good job of making her a hero but there were some struggles along the way.
